Faculty of Mechanical Engineering celebrates the 100 years of mechanical engineering
In the year we are celebrating the centenary of the University of Ljubljana, we are also celebrating the centenary of mechanical engineering, which a special and admirable event. Namely, the University of Ljubljana was founded on 23rd July 1919 by a special bill; while 19th May 1919 saw the beginning of lectures for the students of mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering. In 1919 they named the first 18 professors, among them an expert in electrical and mechanical engineering, dr. Milan Vidmar, who got his PhD in classical mechanical engineering with a thesis titled “Theorie der Kreiselpumpe” or The Theory of Centrifugal Pump. In the period between 1919 and 1945 the mechanical engineering in Slovenia had difficulties in establishing its own path, and was trying to overcome the lack of appropriate lecturers and facilities. All of the above was only the basis for the foundation of the independent Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 1961.
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana, under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia Mr Borut Pahor, will honour the venerable anniversary with a celebratory academy on 26th November at the Gallus Hall of the Cankar Centre.
